AREA OF ORIGIN

Land of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG.

The Conegliano Valdobbiadene area extends over a hilly territory combined with steep slopes and gentle slopes located 50 km from Venice and about 100 km from the Dolomites. The production area, which covers 15 communes and represents the heart of the Prosecco world, is a historic Italian denomination recognized in 1969.

In 2009, with the reorganization of Prosecco denominations, the Ministry of Agriculture classified it as Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), the highest quality wine in Italy. It is flanked by the DOCG Asolo and the DOC Prosecco, extended over 9 provinces of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, created to protect the viticultural heritage of Prosecco and to safeguard it in the world.

Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG represents a synthesis of history and “naturally” superior quality; founded by precise rules that guarantee the uniqueness and authenticity of a tradition that, while adapting to change, has preserved a distinct and unmistakable identity.

The mark of state in each bottle makes it traceable at all times, so the consumer can be traced back precisely to the history of the wine. Every stage of production, in fact, is subject to strict controls. The Conegliano Valdobbiadene G of warranty is more than a simple point: it is the recognition of years of hard work to reach an excellent quality at every stage of processing and production.

Actually, 8,000 hectares of vineyards are entered in the official D.O.C.G. Register. Just over 107 of these are in the Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze subzone in the commune of Valdobbiadene, which lies between the hamlets of Santo Stefano, Saccol and San Pietro di Barbozza; a real ‘cru‘ that arises from the perfect combination of a mild microclimate and a soil originated from the ancient seabed lifting.

And it is right in the heart of the exclusive area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG and of the precious area of Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG that Vigne Savie has its headquarter and cultivates its vineyards.

Another important date is July 7, 2019; finally, the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In these areas “has been recognized the universal value of a unique cultural and agricultural landscape, resulting from an extraordinary, wise interaction between a production activity of excellence and the nature of a fascinating territory as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared. Three areas have been identified, Core Zone where Vigne Savie is located, Buffer Zone and Commitment Zone.

Three areas have been identified, Core Zone where Vigne Savie is located, Buffer Zone and Commitment Zone.

The distinctive elements of these hills are three:

  • a particular geomorphological conformation known as “hogback” consisting of a series of steep, rugged slops extending in an east-west direction and interspersed with small parallel-running valleys;
  • in this difficult environment, man has been able to adapt himself over the centuries, modelling the steep slopes and perfecting his own agricultural technique: the “ciglione” is the expression of this adaptive capacity. It is a particular type of terracing that uses grassy land instead of stone and that is preferred to other systems because it contributes to the solidity of the slope and reduces soil erosion;
  • the landscape defined as “patchwork” is a high fragmented and interconnected configuration characterized by numerous vineyard plots interspersed with an important presence of wooded area and unproductive elements, making up an effective ecological network that provides quality ecosystem services.
